Sit in Your Light, 2024
From the project How We Get Over: Southern Grief Museum
Mixed media including moss, plants, and reclaimed chair, dimensions variable

Sit in Your Light delves into the resilience and growth that emerge from collective mourning. The installation features an inviting moss-covered chair with a throw pillow made of fresh flowers. The artists intend Sit in Your Light as a cozy space to sit, reflect, and write a letter to your grief. By providing an opportunity for visitors’ bodies to connect with nature, in an environment designed to be soothing and comfortable, the artists give the gift of self-care and healing, something we could all use more of in the chaos and uncertainty of our present time.

By intertwining elements of nature with personal narratives, Sit in Your Light invites visitors to experience the beauty that can arise from the depths of grief. The installation encourages participants to embrace their emotions and find solace in the shared experience of loss.

Please write a personal message on the provided seed paper about your feelings of loss related to the overturn of Roe v. Wade, or your own experience with reproductive care. Your letter of grief can later be planted in a location of your choosing as an act of healing and renewal.
